Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has launched one of the most personal and cutting attacks yet on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, telling his family directly that if they love him, they need to check him into a rehabilitation facility before things get worse.
The trigger for Cheruiyot's outburst was a statement Gachagua made on May 19, 2026, in which the former Deputy President directly contradicted the government's explanation for the high fuel prices.
Gachagua said flatly that Kenya's fuel does not come from Iran and does not pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
He pointed out that Kenya's fuel is sold by ADNOC in Dubai and processed by Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia, making the government's argument about the Iran conflict and the Strait of Hormuz a story built on hot air.
For Cheruiyot, that statement was not a political disagreement to be debated but evidence of something far more concerning. He described Gachagua as a lunatic and warned, with theatrical alarm, that very soon the man will start walking naked in the streets if his family does not intervene urgently.
The irony of Cheruiyot's response is that it completely avoided engaging with the substance of what Gachagua actually said. Instead of addressing whether Kenya's fuel supply chain does or does not pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the Senator went straight for personal ridicule.
For many Kenyans watching, the decision to attack the messenger rather than dispute the message raised its own questions about which version of events is closer to the truth.
