Caleb Amisi Accuses CS Mbadi of Betraying Raila After Clash With Ruth Odinga

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has sharply criticised Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, accusing him of disrespecting the Odinga family and betraying the late ODM leader Raila Odinga following recent remarks directed at Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga.

In a strongly worded statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Amisi questioned why Mbadi would openly confront Raila’s sister despite the political support he allegedly received from the ODM leader during his rise to national politics.

Amisi, who has been vocal on party matters in the past, said Mbadi’s actions were not only disrespectful but also ungrateful to the Odinga family.

“Kuna kitu imeniuma tangu juzi wacha niseme initoke,” Amisi wrote before launching into a direct attack.

“Where does CS John Mbadi get the audacity to abuse and attack the sister to Raila Odinga, Ruth Odinga? A man who helped him win political seats and made him minister in Ruto government?” he posed.

The legislator suggested that some leaders who benefited from Raila Odinga’s political influence had now turned against him and his family. In an emotional post, Amisi described Raila as a leader who was surrounded by individuals with selfish interests.

“Wonders will never cease! Baba continue resting in peace. You were surrounded by vultures,” Amisi stated, sparking widespread debate among ODM supporters online.

Amisi’s remarks come amid growing attention over an exchange between Ruth Odinga and Mbadi, which reportedly began after comments made during an Orange Democratic Movement retreat held in Mombasa on May 4, 2026.

According to Ruth Odinga, Mbadi made statements suggesting that ODM does not belong to any single family and allegedly remarked that Raila Odinga was “already dead and buried.” Ruth claimed the comments were meant to dismiss the Odinga family’s role in the party’s formation and growth.

In a Facebook post dated May 10, 2026, Ruth expressed disappointment, saying she was the only member of the Odinga family present at the retreat. She also noted that ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga did not attend the meeting.

Ruth defended the Odinga family’s contribution to the party’s history and argued that the legacy of Raila Odinga should not be casually dismissed by leaders who rose through the party’s ranks.

However, Mbadi has rejected Ruth’s claims, insisting that she misrepresented his speech and misunderstood the intention of the retreat. In a statement responding to the matter, the Treasury CS said the retreat was meant for internal reflection and discussions that should have remained within party structures.

“I’m therefore surprised to see my sister Ruth Adhiambo Odinga distort my speech, something which could have entirely remained in-house,” Mbadi said.

He explained that the meeting allowed party leaders to speak candidly about internal challenges and political realities following the transition in ODM leadership. Mbadi also maintained that his remarks were not aimed at attacking any individual or family.

In a video accompanying his clarification, Mbadi stressed that ODM is a national political party that should not be tied to one community or family.

“This party does not belong to one community… It does not belong to Siaya… It does not belong to a family,” Mbadi stated.

The public exchange has sparked renewed debate about the direction of ODM and possible emerging divisions within the party as it prepares for future political contests.
